Indian Border Security Force (BSF) troopers have gunned down a Bangladeshi man near Fatehpur frontier in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

The victim was identified as Anwar Hossain, 25, son of Sentu Mia from local Daipara village, our local correspondent reports quoting an official.

BSF men shot down Anwar near the border around 10:00pm last night, said Nazmul Alam, acting commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion-20.

"They thought he was a smuggler," he said.

The body of the Bangladeshi was last reported to be at the hands of Indian police. It will be later handed over to Bangladeshi border troopers.
