6.80 lakh Yaba seized in Feni, 2 held
Rapid Action Battalion detained two people including an official of Special Branch of police and seized around 6.80 lakh Yaba tablets from his car in Feni Sadar upazila last night.
The detainees are Mahfuz, an assistant sub-inspector of SB, and his car driver Javed, said Major Md Mozammel, deputy director of Rab-7, Feni camp.
Acting on a tip-off, the Rab team launched a raid at Lalpur in Sadar upazila and detained Mahfuz along with his car driver Javed around 11:30pm.
They seized around 6.80 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 27.76 crore from his car, the Rab official said.
Around Tk 7 lakh cash, four mobile phone sets, eight credit cards and three notebooks were also seized from him.
"Mahfuz endorsed during primary interrogation that two policemen Belal and Mohammad Ashik gave the Yaba tablets to him for handing those over to their friends Zakir and Shahin, also a SB member, in Dhaka," ASP Sohel Mahmud, assistant director (media) Rab-7 said in a press statement floated today.
Belal is a sub-inspector of Detective Branch of police in Cox's Bazar, and Ashik is in-charge of Kumira Highway police outpost, the Rab official said.
Mahfuz also admitted that he has been running the drug racket misusing his power since long, he added.
Rab members also seized his private car.
