IO of murder case summoned
The High Court today summoned the investigation officer (IO) of a murder case in Bagerhat to appear before it on May 16 for not complying with its order over producing the inquest and post mortem reports of the case to this court.
The court ordered the superintendent of Bagerhat police to ensure the presence of IO Thakur Das Mondal before it on May 16.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order during hearing of a petition filed by accused Shahidul Islam Fakir seeking bail in the case.
Assistant Attorney General Md Yousuf Mahmud Morshed told The Daily Star that one Shukkur Sheikh of Daibaggohati village under Morelganj Police Station in Bagerhat was shot dead on October 1 last year.
Shukkur’s brother filed a murder case with Morelganj Police Station the same day against Shahidul Islam Fakir, chairman of Daibaggohati union, and some others.
Police arrested Shahidul on October 2 last year in connection with the case, AAG Morshed said.
During hearing of the bail petition of Shahidul one month ago, the HC bench ordered the IO of the case Thakur Das Mondal, also a sub-inspector of the police station, to produce the inquest and post mortem reports of the case through the attorney general’s office before the court by today.
The attorney general’s office has requested IO Thakur Das to provide the reports for placing them to the HC, but IO Thakur Das did not respond, AAG Morshed said.
While hearing the same bail petition today, the HC was informed of the issue and then the court passed the summon order and fixed May 16 for further hearing on the bail petition.
Advocate Humayun Kabir appeared for Shahidul.
