HC wants a list of language heroes, martyrs
The High Court today directed the government to prepare a complete list of language heroes and martyrs and submit it before this court in the next six months.
In the order, the court asked the authorities concerned to form a committee, led by the cultural affairs secretary in a month to prepare the list.
The other members of the committee must be persons involved in the language movement or its research.
The government has been asked to submit in two months a plan of the committee and its progress in this regard.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader came up with the order following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Shubir Nandi Das.
The SC lawyer filed the writ petition with the HC, seeking its directive on the government to provide state honour and honorarium to the language heroes and language martyrs in order to protect and preserve the memories of the Language Movement.
