Militant outfit Neo JMB leader Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, also a plotter of Holey Artisan Café attack, was placed on a six-day remand today in a case filed against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Metropolitan Magistrate Amirul Haider Chowdhury passed the order after Gandhi was produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

The case was filed with Dhanmondi Police Station in November last year for creating anarchy in the area.

Rajib Gandhi was arrested from Tangail on January 13 this year in a drive conducted by members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

On the evening of July 1 last year, five gunmen burst into the eatery and started firing indiscriminately. They turned off all the lights, held the diners hostage and sorted out targets through a test of reciting verses from the Holy Quran.

They then brutally killed the hostages with guns and machetes, and used the victims' phones to publish images of the bodies on the social media.

Around 12 hours later, para commandos stormed the restaurant and found traces of mindless butchery. Twenty hostages were brutally murdered with the café's floor strewn with bodies.

Two police officers were killed in the attack.
