Culture of impunity led to BB heist: BNP
A prevailing culture of impunity has led to the heist of $101 million out of Bangladesh Bank, BNP’s joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said today.
He demanded that the prime minister, finance minister and Bangladesh Bank’s governor accept responsibility of the incident and resign over the embezzlement.
Rizvi said such incident took place as the government did not take any strong action against public money plundering from the country’s banking sector.
He alleged that there was an evil effort to hush up the incident as the big fishes are behind it. “Why did the incident surface after one month? It clearly manifests that there was an evil attempt to hide the incident,” Rizvi said.
Rizvi demanded that the government recover the stolen money immediately and punish those found involved with the heist.
He was addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.
