Default loan now Tk 55,095cr: Finance minister

The total amount of default loan now stands at Tk 55,095 crore, Finance Minister AMA Muhith told parliament today.

"The total defaulted loan at banks and commerical organisations stood Tk 55,095.33 crore till January 2018," Muhith said citing the statistics of Credit Information Bureau of Bangladesh Bank.

In a scripted answer, Muhith said as part of improving recovery situation of the defaulted loan in the banking sector, various steps have been taken to identify defaulted clients and bring them to book.

Muhith also said considering importance of realising defaulted loans, Bangladesh Bank has already given several instructions to the banks to recover the defaulted loan.
