Wasfia Nazreen, the country’s only seven summiteer, reached the summit of Pico de Orizaba, the highest peak in Mexico and the highest volcano in North America.

Wasfia reached the summit with her friend Juan Mendoza through its northern route on Thursday, August 24, according to a press release from Grameenphone. She is a brand Ambassador of Grameenphone since 2016.

Pico de Orizaba is the third highest peak in North America after Denali (also climbed by Wasfia as the first Bangladeshi) and Mount Logan. The volcano is also known as Citlaltépetl in Nahuatl language of the Aztecs, which means “Star Mountain.” It rises 5,636 meters (18,491 ft) above sea level in the eastern end of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. It is currently dormant but not extinct.

Expressing delight at Wasfia’s achievement, Yasir Azman, deputy CEO and CMO of Grameenphone, said, “Grameenphone believes in great achievements beyond the ordinary. Over the last years, this belief has firmly established us as the leading digital services provider in Bangladesh. Wasfia is the best at what she does and resonates our belief. We are proud to have her as our brand ambassador.”

Pico de Orizaba is one of only three volcanoes in México that continue to support glaciers and is home to the largest glacier in Mexico, Gran Glaciar Norte. Wasfia is the first and only Bangladeshi to have climbed the stratovolcano.
