Shushashoner Jannoy Nagorik (Shujan), a civil society platform, today said the recently held Rangpur City Corporation polls have set an example of peaceful election.

Elections in future can be held in peaceful manner following the December 21’s Rangpur city polls, Shujan Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar said at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU).

No matter how powerful the Election Commission is, it is not possible for the commission to hold fair and peaceful elections without any support of government, political parties, candidates, polling officials and law enforcement agencies, the Shujan secretary said.

Jatiya Party (Ershad) mayoral candidate Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa won the Rangpur City Corporation election defeating Awami League and BNP contestants by a big margin.
