Why no compensation to newborn's parents
The High Court yesterday issued a rule asking the respondents to explain why they should not be directed to give Tk 50 lakh in compensation to the parents of a seven-day old girl in Moulvibazar, who died on the way to a hospital, during the countrywide 48-hours strike enforced by transport workers in October.
Secretaries to ministries of home, road transport and bridges, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, inspector general of police, superintendent of police in Moulvibazar, officer in charge of Baralekha Police Station, president and general secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation have been made respondents to the rule. The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order following a writ petition jointly filed by Children's Charity Bangladesh Foundation and Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust.
