Student found dead in Dhaka madrasa hostel

A madrasa student was “killed by fellow” students in a hostel in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur, family claimed.

The deceased, Mofazzal Hossain, 16, hailing from Matlab in Chandpur, was a class X student of Kaderiya Taiyaba Aliya Madrasa in Mohammadpur and resided in the madrasa’s hostel, police said.

Mofazzal was found inside a toilet in unconscious state with severe head injuries around 1:30am following a scuffle between two groups of the students around 10:30pm last night, said Shafiul Alam, house tutor of the hostel.

He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors pronounced him dead early today, said Jamal Uddin Mir, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station.

Victim’s father Abul Kashem alleged that some students of class XI might have killed Mofazzal over enmity after he blamed them [the students] of stealing his smartphone recently.

The OC said police suspected Mofazzal was murdered.

‘We are looking into the matter,” he said adding that autopsy of the deceased was conducted at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) morgue.

No case was filed till filing this report around 9:00pm.
