2 ‘robbers’ killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’
Two alleged robbers were killed during a “gunfight” with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Dhaka’s Gabtoli area early today.
The deceased were identified as Badshah and Hanif.
Deceased Badshah was accused in several robbery cases filed with different police stations.
A team of Rab-10 set up two check posts in Gabtoli area based on information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit a robbery on the road, Major Jamshedur Rahman, deputy director of Rab-10, told The Daily Star.
Over suspicious movement, the Rab members signaled a truck to stop at a check post around 3:00am, but it rushed off ignoring the signal.
“As the officials at the next check post were alerted, they tried to stop the truck but the robbers opened fire on the elite force, prompting them to retaliate which triggered the “gun battle”, said Major Jamshedur.
Badshah was hit by a bullet during the “gunfight” and died on the spot, the major said.
One of his cohorts, Hanif, who sustained bullet injuries, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 2:30pm, Mohammed Mohiuddin Faruqe, a company commander of Rab-10 told The Daily Star.
