Ride-sharing biker stabbed dead in Dhaka
An alleged mugger stabbed a ride-sharing biker to death and snatched away his motorcycle in Dhaka’s Malibagh area early today.
Deceased Milon, 35, used to live at Gudaraghat in Mirpur with his wife and two children, said his neighbour Siraj, driver of a CNG-run-auto-rickshaw, told The Daily Star.
The incident took place on Malibagh-Mouchak flyover near Abul Hotel around 2:15am when he along with a pillion passenger was going to Shantinagar from Malibagh, said Siraj.
Police and Milon’s relatives suspected that a mugger in disguise of a pillion passenger may stab Milon and snatched away his bike and mobile phone.
After being stabbed, Milon grasped his own neck and run for life while bleeding profusely. As he could come down from the flyover, two pedestrians rescued Milon and took him to patrol police in Shantinagar.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he got seven stiches on his neck but bleeding continued, added Siraj.
Milon was shifted to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) where he succumbed to his injuries around 5:45am, Atikur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Shahjahanpur Police Station.
Milon’s wife Shilpi filed a murder case with the local police station in this connection.
SI Atikur Rahman, also investigation officer (IO) of the case, said that Milon did not use any ride-sharing app during the time of the incident.
“Milon was a rider of Uber and Pathao. But he has not been using it since August 7,” he said.
Many riders took pillions in contract without using app. Milon perhaps did the same, the police official said.
