Housewife held over death of minor house help
Police today arrested a housewife following death of a minor female house help, whose body bore several injury marks, in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area early Wednesday.
The 12-year-jold victim, Jannati, daughter of Janu Mollah of Bogura’s Gabtoli, had been working at the house of Sayeed Ahmed, an engineer of Water Development Board (PWD), for the last three years, police and family sources said.
Sayeed and his wife Roksana Pervin took Jannati to the emergency department of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital around 12:15am yesterday, GG Bishwas, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said quoting doctors.
The victim died before she was taken to the hospital, the OC quoted the doctors as saying.
Selim Reza, head of Forensic Medicine Department at the hospital, said they found several injury marks in the body.
The girl might have died due to excessive internal bleeding from her wounds, the doctor. The victim might have been hit by blunt object, he added.
Today, police arrested Roksana, after the victim’s father Janu Mollah filed a murder case against the couple with Mohammadpur Police Station, OC GG Bishwas said.
However, the law enforcers could not arrest her husband Sayeed Ahmed as he went into hiding, he added.
Victim’s maternal uncle Tariqul Islam told The Daily Star that the couple used to assault the girl physically but she did not make any complain to her parents.
