8 held over Mehedi’s killing in Dhaka’s Dakkhin Khan
Detectives have arrested eight people in a case filed over the killing of Mehedi Hasan in Dakkhin Khan area of Dhaka.
A team of Detective Branch (north) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the eight with a knife and some mobile phones, according to a text message sent by the DMP.
Details of the drive will be briefed at DMP Media Center in the capital later today, the message reads.
Mehedi Hasan, 17, suffered injuries during a clash between the members of Shanto group and Arafat group in Dakkhin Khan area on August 31. Later, he died at Kurmitola General Hospital on the same day, the family members said.
Talking to The Daily Star, a cousin of Mehedi, 17, said the boy came from Sadar upazila of Patuakhali to visit his friend Nazmul’s house in Dhaka’s Dakkhin Khan area after Eid-ul-Azha.
Before his arrival in Dhaka, Nazmul, also a member of Shanto group, had an altercation with youth Taki, a member of Arafat group, in the area.
The incident took place in front of KC Hospital on August 31 evening when Nazmul involved in a clash with the rival group while Mehedi was accompanying him.
At one stage, the rival members chopped Mehedi with sharp weapons, leaving him injured critically.
Mehedi was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Later, the victim’s mother filed a murder case with Dakkhin Khan Police Station in this connection.
