Couple killed in hit-and-run: Bus driver arrested

Criminal Investigation Department arrested the driver of Ajmeri Glory Paribahan that hit and ran over a couple in Dhaka's Airport area yesterday.

A team of CID arrested Tasikul Islam from Mouchak area in Gazipur early today, said Imran Hossain, sub-inspector of Airport Police Station, who is investigating the case.

The victims -- Akash Iqbal and his wife Maya Hazarika -- were on their way to work when the bus hit their motorbike around 7:30 am.

The husband and wife were thrown onto the highway and the bus driver, attempting to escape, drove over then, said Imran.

The couple, who have a five-year-old daughter, died on the spot.

In primary interrogation, Tasikul admitted that he was behind the wheel when the accident happened.
