BGB to start patrolling in Dhaka from tomorrow
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will start patrolling in Dhaka from tomorrow, ahead of the city corporation elections scheduled for February 1.
A total of 75 platoons of BGB will be deployed in both Dhaka north and south city areas to avert any untoward incident, Dr Dewan Mohammad Humayun Kabir, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka, told The Daily Star today.
Kabir added that the BGB platoons will be on duty for four days, till February 2.
The DC said 65 platoons will be on patrol, each deployed in two wards as a strike force, and 10 platoons will be kept as reserve, five each in DNCC and DSCC areas.
Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed, director operations of BGB, told The Daily Star that BGB members will start patrolling from dawn on Thursday.
According to EC sources, a platoon of BGB comprises 15 to 25 members.
