Banani building fire blamed on gas pipe leak
The fire at a Banani building in Dhaka that injured at least one person in the early hours of today has been blamed on "a leak in the gas supply line" by owner and tenants.
Fire broke out around 1:40am at the third floor of the building. Later, it spread to the upper floors, said Atiqul Islam, an inspector Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.

One person sustained burn injuries and was rushed to the capital's United Hospital for treatment, UNB reported quoting Aminul Islam, manager of the hospital.
Fifteen units of fire fighters rushed to the building of Banani and extinguished the fire around 4:40am.
At least 25 residents were evacuated to the rooftop for safety, Inspector Atiqul said. "None of them sustained any major injuries."
As of yet, the residents of the building on road-23 at Banani were not being allowed to enter. Law enforcers were seen at guard, cordoning off the area.
TITAS DIDN'T RESPOND TO LEAK COMPLAINT
A complaint of gas leak was lodged to the state-run Titas gas company three days ago, said Shamsul Alam, owner of the building, told Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
They lodged complaint at the Titas complaint centre three times yesterday. "The official said they will repair the line if they have any spare worker to send over," he told Prothom Alo.
Today, the owner of the building said that he will sue against the Titas company.
Senior officials of Titas Gas at a press briefing said that they will form a committee on Sunday after the two day weekend to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, fire service formed a three-member committee to probe the incident.
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq visited the spot.
