4 IS suspects indicted
A Dhaka court today, for the first time, framed charges against four 'IS' suspects for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to topple the democratic government through subversive activities and establish a Khilafat state.
The suspects are: Sakhawatul Kabir, Nazrul Islam, Anwar Hossain alias Baten and Rabiul Islam.
According to the charge sheet, all the arrestees were actually involved with Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Kabir was a regional coordinator of the militant group. He received militant training in Pakistan and on return took over as coordinator of IS' Bangladesh chapter.
All the four, now in jail, claimed themselves innocent and demanded justice after Judge Ruhul Amin of the Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka read out the charges to them.
The court fixed February 25 next year to start trial of the case. The four were arrested in the capital's Jatrabari on January 18.
