2 burnt in gas leak fire at Rampura

Two people sustained burn injuries in a fire caused by gas leak at their residence in the city's East Rampura area early today.

Rakib Hossain, 22, a first year student of marketing department of Habibullah Bahar College and Sarwar Sajib, 26, a tailor, are now receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), hospital sources said.

The fire broke out at the ground floor of a four-storey building from gas explosion while lightning up cigarette around 3:30am, Rakib's brother Md Mamun told The Daily Star.

The fire broke out when one of the victims went to light either a gas stove or cigarette, Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station, primarily suspected.

Rakib sustained 25 percent burn injuries while Sajib 10 percent, hospital sources informed.
