40,000 yaba tablets seized in Dhaka

Law enforcers today claimed to have recovered 40,000 yaba tablets from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and Mirpur area of Dhaka.

At Dhaka airport, officials of Airport Armed Police Battalion (AAPBn) today detained a person for allegedly carrying 10,000 pieces of yaba tablets.

The detainee was identified as Jashim Uddin, 36, from Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar, said Alamgir Hossain, additional superintendent of police (operation and media) of AAPBn.

Jashim was intercepted by the law enforcers outside the domestic terminal of the airport where he was loitering suspiciously around 1:00pm, he said.

Later, he confessed to carrying yaba tablets inside his custom-made belt, the official said adding he arrived Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar in a Novoair flight today.

A case will be filed against Jashim in this connection, he added.

Besides, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of Bogura police recovered 30,000 yaba pills from the capital’s Mirpur area early today, according to a press release.

Based on information given by an accused, Faruk Miah, 25, who was arrested along with 3,500 yaba tablets from Bogura town on August 16, the detectives raided a rented house of Faruk in Madhaya Paikpara of Mirpur-1 around 12:30am.

The team also detained Foyez Uddin, an associate of Faruk, from the house, the release read.

During interrogation, Faruk told police that they used to buy yaba pills from Tekaf of Cox’s Bazar, store the pills in Dhaka and then supply those to different districts of the country.

They have several groups who work together, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting Aslam Ali, inspector of DB in Bogura.
