Indigenous people want 5% quota allocation in govt job
A group of indigenous people today demanded to keep five percent allocation of quota privileges in government job recruitment system.
Welcoming the prime minister’s decision to scrap the quota system, they urged her to keep their five-point demand in mind while planning for the next course of action.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in face of country-wide demonstrations staged by the general students on April 11 decided to scrap the quota system in government job recruitment.
The PM, however, said a different arrangement will be made so that members of ethnic minorities and physically-challenged people can get government jobs.
The group of indigenous people this morning under the banner of “Bangladesh er Khudro Nrigoshtir Jonogon” formed a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.
In case of the higher education, the government also should keep the five percent quota in enrollment in the public and private universities for them, Ajay Prokash, convener of the indigenous group, said.
“We also want the five percent quota allocation in recruiting system of private organisations including banks and insurance companies,” he added.
The new committee that will be formed following the PM's recent declaration should have representatives from the indigenous people, he demanded.
