Almost six kilogrammes of gold were seized from Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport and Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport.

Based on a tip, a team of Dhaka Customs House raided a lavatory near the boarding bridge No. 8 of the airport and found four gold bars, weighing one kg each, Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Customs House, told The Daily Star.

The market price of the recovered gold bars is Tk 2 crore, the customs official added.

Further actions regarding the matter will be taken under the customs act 1969, he added.

On the other hand, officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID), acting on a tip-off, detained a man from Shah Amanat International Airport for illegally carrying 1.97 kg gold worth Tk 1 crore.

Detainee Md Rafik Ullah, hailed from Chattogram, was carrying the gold hiding inside a speaker wrapped with blue carbon paper inside his luggage, CIID director general Shahidul Islam told The Daily Star.

More gold was recovered from Rafik’s possession in the form of bockless of belts and hooks of pants, the DG said.
