4 including imam held for ‘drug dealing’ in Dhaka
Police have detained four people including an imam of a mosque from Jatrabari area of Dhaka for their alleged involvement in drug trading.
The arrestees are Md Shahidullah, 30, imam of a mosque, Mahmud Hossain, 30, hailing from Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar; Swapan Datta, 32, of Madaripur Sadar upazila, and Mahbub Sarder, 30, of Monirampur in Jessore, police said.
Acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid at Metro CNG Filling Station in Jatrabari around 3:45pm yesterday and detained Shahidullah and Swapan Datta from a mosque in the area, Moshiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said today.Police also seized around 18,000 yaba pills from their possessions, the police official said.
Following confessional statement of the duo, police also carried out a search in the area and detained Mahbub, a truck driver and Mahmud, a helper of his truck.
The law enforcers also recovered around 10,000 yaba pills from the tool-box of their truck while Tareque, 30, a suspected drug dealer, managed to flee the spot, the DC said.
A case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station in this connection.
