6 Shibir men held with 1kg gunpowder in Rampura

Police claimed that they had arrested six activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, and recovered one kilogramme of gunpowder from their possession at Rampura in Dhaka.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team of Rampura Police Station conducted a raid at an under-construction building at Ulon Road of West Rampura around 11:30pm yesterday, Mustafizur Rahman, inspector (operation) of the police station, told The Daily Star.

The detainees are Zakir Hossain, 23, Md Shafique, 25, Md Rony, 24, Rumman Hossain, 22, Ataur Rahman, 20, and Abdul Quader, 28, he added.

Several cocktails and bomb making materials were also recovered searching the house, the inspector informed.

The detainees were planning to prepare explosives for carrying out subversive activities on Chrishmas Day and New Year night, Mustafizur said.
