A mobile court today seized 4,000 metric tonnes of rice from a warehouse in Chittagong city.

The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Syed Murad Ali launched a drive at the warehouse of “Ahmed Trading” in the port city around 2:00pm and seized the rice in 80,000 sacks, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting the executive magistrate.

According to the magistrate, they seized the rice as the trading company, Masud and Brothers, stored the rice in the warehouse for the last 39 days in a bid to create artificial crisis in the local market.

Meanwhile, Masud and Brothers’ manager Abu Taher was detained from the spot for interrogation, said the magistrate.

The mobile team sealed the warehouse and give its custody to Pahartali Police Station, he added.
