3 burnt in Bangshal shoe factory fire

At least three people were burnt as fire broke out at a shoe manufacturing factory in Bangshal area of Dhaka this afternoon.

The victims--Omar Faruque, 30, Manik, 26 and Imran, 17—were rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said Nayek Rafiqul Islam of the hospital’s police camp.

Faruque suffers 25 percent burn injuries, while Manik nine percent and Imran three percent, burn unit's Resident Surgeon Dr Partha Shankar Paul told The Daily Star. 

The fire might be originated from a burning cigarette while the victims were working there, said Inspector Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin of Bangshal Police Station, quoting the witnesses.

Later, locals managed to douse the fire, he added.
