20kmph at night in residential, VIP areas
A 20kmph speed limit has been imposed on residential and VIP areas of Dhaka city after 10:00pm.
The High Court imposed the order and additionally curbed hooting also during the quiet hours for what is said “so that sound pollution is not created”.
It also ordered the home secretary and inspector general of police (IGP) to shut down the factories that produce pneumatic horns.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order while hearing a writ moved by Advocate Manjill Murshid on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
The High Court on November 5, directed the government to stop the use of pneumatic horns in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country.
Earlier on October 8, the HC directed vehicle owners and drivers all over the country to handover pneumatic horns to the police stations concerned within 15 days.
It also asked the police to destroy the pneumatic horns soon after seizing them.
