UIU hosts Media Fest 2025

The Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) at United International University (UIU) hosted the UIU Media Fest 2025 on September 23, celebrating innovation, creativity, and the vibrant spirit of media and communication. The event brought together students, educators, and industry professionals in a dynamic exchange of ideas and inspiration.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor of UIU, as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr Hamidul Huq, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr Md Zulfiqur Rahman, Registrar, attended as Special Guests. The session was chaired by Dr Sheikh Shafiul Islam, Head of the MSJ Department, while Prof. Dr Mohammad Omar Farooq, Head of the Department of Economics, was also present at the event.

Throughout the day, a series of exciting activities, including a media quiz, photo and content competitions, and an engaging 'Star Talk' session, were led by Dr Mario Hirstein, Assistant Professor, and lecturers Kazi Kamrun Nahar Tania, Sumia Zahid, and Umme Ammara of the MSJ department. 

A major highlight of the fest was the presence of renowned actress Mehazabien Chowdhury, whose appearance drew immense enthusiasm among students and guests alike. During an interactive session, she shared insights from her remarkable journey in the entertainment industry, emphasising the importance of passion, discipline, and authenticity in creative pursuits. She also applauded UIU's MSJ Department for its commitment to nurturing ethical and skilled media professionals who can lead Bangladesh's evolving media landscape.

Other notable guests who inspired the audience with their speeches and discussions included content creator Kaarina Kaiser, Head of News at News24 Shariful Islam Khan, film director Maksud Hossain, filmmaker Shankha Dasgupta, and Md Shariful Islam, Head of Influencing, Communication, Advocacy & Media at Oxfam Bangladesh.

The event was further enlivened by performances from students of the MSJ department and members of the UIU Cultural Club, UIU Photography Club, and UIU Film and Theatre Club, who showcased their artistic talents through music, acting, and visual storytelling.
