Bangladeshi doctoral student wins NYU AI & Local News challenge

Md Ashraful Goni, a Bangladeshi doctoral student at Texas Tech University's College of Media and Communication, recently won the NYU Artificial Intelligence AI & Local News challenge for his project "Project Bangla AI".

Project Bangla AI is a tool that journalists can utilise for their work in the media industry.  

This tool helps journalists communicate with and disseminate news among Bangladeshi immigrants, many of whom aren't fluent in English. According to Md Ashraful Goni, this tool is "like a mix of Google Translate and ChatGPT, but for journalists".

Md Ashraful Goni and his team received award money that will help with further development and production of the AI tool for journalists.
