Subsidised eggs, meat, fish to reach 10 lakh families in Ramadan, says state minister
The government has taken an initiative to sell eggs, meat and fish at subsidised prices to nearly 10 lakh low-income families during the month of Ramadan.
The move would help contain market prices and benefit general consumers as well, said State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Agriculture and Food Sultan Salahuddin Tuku today while inaugurating the sales programme at the Livestock Research Institute in Dhaka.
Under the programme, dressed broiler chicken, pasteurised milk, eggs and beef will be sold at subsidised prices for 26 days until the 25th of Ramadan through mobile sales vans.
Dressed broiler chicken will be sold at Tk 245 per kilogram, pasteurised milk at Tk 80 per litre, eggs at Tk 8 per piece, and beef at Tk 650 per kilogram.
During Ramadan, when some dishonest traders raise prices, the suffering of low-income people intensifies, he said.
There are plans to expand the programme further in the future, he added.
The government will also take initiatives to introduce Family Cards, Agriculture Cards and Health Cards to implement its electoral commitments, he said.
