Govt to buy 50,000 tonnes of rice each from India, Pakistan

The advisory committee on purchase took the decision

The government is going to buy a total of 100,000 tonnes of rice from India and Pakistan, according to a decision taken by the advisory committee on purchase today.

The food ministry will buy 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati rice from India-based M/S Pattabhi Agro Foods Private Ltd at $355.77 per tonne.

It will purchase 50,000 tonnes of sun-dried rice from the Trading Corporation of Pakistan at $395 per tonne under a government-to-government arrangement, according to the decision made at the meeting of the committee chaired by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed.

In addition, the government will buy 3.75 crore litres of soybean oil through the direct purchase method from Nigeria and the United States of America.

Of that, 1.25 crore litres will be bought from the US at Tk 132.69 per litre, while Nigeria will supply soybean oil at Tk 121.32 per litre.

The meeting also approved awarding Sinopec International Petroleum Service Corporation the contract to drill and develop four wells at the Shahbazpur and Bhola gas fields.
