Dhaka stocks fall for third day

Equities on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell for the third straight session today, with turnover also dropping amid waning investor participation.
According to DSE data, the bourse's benchmark DSEX index dropped 65.10 points, or 1.17 percent, to finish at 5,473.14.
The other indices performed negatively too, as the Shariah-based DSES decreased 1.30 percent to 1,188.22, while the blue-chip DS30 declined 1.06 percent to 2,129.90.
Turnover, an important gauge of investor activity, fell below Tk 1,000 crore after nine consecutive days. It stood at Tk 949.96 crore, down from Tk 1,177.26 crore in the previous session.
Block trades, high-volume transactions involving a large number of securities, accounted for a notable share, with transactions recorded across several scrips and overall trade amounting to Tk 38.06 crore.
Market breadth was negative, with 43 issues advancing against 313 losers, while 41 remained unchanged.
A-category stocks saw more losers than winners, while the B-category performed similarly.
By segment, mutual funds were negative, with just one issue advancing and 21 declining; corporate bonds saw one issue advance and one decline, and the government bond market saw three issues decline.
On the day's performance table, Tamijuddin Textile Mills surged 9.99 percent to top the gainers' list, while Trust Islami Life Insurance declined 9.96 percent, making it the worst performer of the session.
