Ctg port handled historic high container, cargo and vessel in 2025
Chattogram port set new records in container, cargo, and vessel handling in 2025, indicating steady growth in foreign trade alongside improved port efficiency.
Container, cargo, and vessel handling registered growth of 4.07 percent, 11.43 percent, and 10.50 percent respectively, according to data provided by the traffic department of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) today.
The port handles 92 percent of the country's total imports and exports and accounts for 98 percent of containerised cargo.
It handled 34.09 lakh TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of export, import, and empty containers from January to December 2025, an increase of 1.33 lakh TEUs from 32.75 lakh TEUs a year earlier.
This was the first-time annual container throughput at the port crossed 34 lakh TEUs, marking the highest volume since the beginning of container operations in 1977.
Of the total volume, around 18.57 lakh TEUs were import containers and 15.52 lakh TEUs export containers.
The CPA compiled the container-handling data by tallying the number of import, export, and empty containers loaded and unloaded at the port's main jetties, Pangaon Inland Container Terminal in Keraniganj and Kamalapur Inland Container Depot in Dhaka.
A significant number of empty containers, around 7.5 lakh TEUs, were also included in the total volume of 34.09 lakh TEUs.
The port recorded an 11.43 percent year-on-year growth in overall cargo handling in 2025, managing a total of 13.82 crore tonnes of cargo, up from 12.40 crore tonnes in 2024, an annual increase of 1.42 crore tonnes.
Total vessel calls rose to 4,273, posting a 10.5 percent growth from 3,867 vessels a year earlier.
Port officials said such growth reflects the port's improved operational capacity and its strong role in keeping the national logistics chain running smoothly.
