Chinese firm to invest $3 million in Chattogram EPZ

Chinese-owned enterprise Direction Technology (Bangladesh) Co Limited will invest $3 million to establish a manufacturing facility at the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) in South Halishahar of the port city.
The company will produce bluetooth headset, wired headphone, and data cable and the investment is expected to generate employment for 478 people, according to a press release.
Md Ashraful Kabir, member for investment promotion at the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza), and Li Fanfan, managing director of Direction Technology (Bangladesh) Co Limited, signed the agreement at Bepza Complex in Dhaka today.
Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, executive chairman of Bepza, attended the signing ceremony.
Bangladesh has earned global recognition for its apparel industry and the Bepza remains committed to diversifying the nation's export basket, he said.
Welcoming Direction Technology as part of the Bepza family, Rahman remarked that the investment introduces a new product line within the electronics sector, reflecting Bepza's focus on attracting diversified industries.
He further assured the company of Bepza's full support, urging it to maintain strict compliance standards in all operations.
This initiative will not only reduce Bangladesh's dependence on traditional apparel and textile industries but also bring greater diversity to Bepza's export portfolio, adding a fresh dimension to technology-based manufacturing within the EPZ, he said.
