Proposed FY27 budget reflects commitment to economic recovery: Fakhrul
LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year as a business-friendly "creative budget", saying it could bring historic and revolutionary changes to Bangladesh's economy.
"This budget is mainly production-friendly, investment-friendly and business-friendly. We have never seen this type of budget before. The exemptions that have been given, the rebates that have been given, we have never seen so many exemptions before," he said while speaking to journalists at his chamber in the parliament building on Thursday evening.
Fakhrul, also the BNP secretary general, said the economy would become active very quickly because of the proposed measures and that Bangladesh's economy would soon regain momentum.
Referring to allocations in different sectors, including education and health, he said the budget would help turn the economy around.
Speaking about the country's economy being in a "fragile state" over the past 17 years, Fakhrul said, "After the fascist government, the interim government failed to bring the country back on track properly. BNP formed the government amid a fragile economy."
"This budget reflects how sincere this government is in rehabilitating the country's economy and bringing back its momentum," he added.
Asked about measures in the budget to control inflation, Fakhrul said, "If production increases, inflation will come down by itself."
