Rape in Savar: Cops arrest 2 based on key accused's statement

Police arrested two youths yesterday over the allegation of raping a teenage girl in Savar though the victim claims the accused were not the culprits.

Obaidur Rahman, officer-in-charge (operation) of Ashulia Police Station, said they detained the two based on the statement of the prime accused arrested earlier.

The girl claimed the two were not involved in the crime and they in fact rescued her, added the officer.  

The prime accused was arrested two days after the alleged rape on January 12. He has given a statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), police say.
