Rampal Plant: 2 workers die as piling pipe falls on them
Two workers were killed as a heavy piling pipe fell on them snapping its strings at Rampal thermal power plant in Bagerhat on Saturday night.
The dead are Nasir Uddin, 27, of Chapainawabganj, and Asadur Rahman, 32, of Bagerhat.
Md Lutfor Rahaman, officer-in-charge of Rampal Police Station, said the workers were critically injured when the heavy pipe collapsed on them around 8:00pm.
The authorities took them to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared the duo dead around 10:00pm, the OC added.
The power plant authorities could not be reached after repeated attempts.
Earlier on March 2, in another incident, two more labourers -- Naib Ali, 45, and Firoz, 49 -- of Rampal thermal power plant were killed.
Another worker was injured in the incident.
In both the cases, it could not be known if proper workplace safety measures were taken for the workers in the particular area of the project.
So far five workers have been killed in separate accidents at the Rampal thermal power plant.
