Myanmar border force picks up 3 Bangladeshis

Three Bangladeshis, including a class-IV student, were picked up allegedly by Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) from the Naf river near Teknaf Upazila on Friday.

The three are Zunayed, 10, a student of Hoaikong Government Primary School, and fishermen Siraj Ullah, 26, and Mohammad Rubel, 24. They are from Hoaikong Uttarpara in the upazila.

The three went to the river to collect Keora fruits, but mistakenly crossed Bangladesh’s water boundary. A team of BGP took them from there, said Zunayed’s mother Mamtaj Begum and family members of the fishermen.

Although the incident happened on Friday, the family members came to know about  it from other fishermen yesterday evening, said Zunayed’s father Gias Uddin.

Gias then informed the matter to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in the district.

Contacted, Ali Mortoza, company commander of BGB in Hoaikong, said they had already sent a protest note to the BGP and were waiting for their response.

Lt Col Foysal Hasan Khan, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-2 in Teknaf, said the incident happened after the three crossed the Bangla-desh border. The BGB sent a letter to the BGP to bring the three back, he added.
