‘Drug peddler’ killed in ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a “gunfight” with BGB members in Teknaf upazila early yesterday.
The dead is Mohammad Ibrahim, 22, of Teknaf.
Lt Col Foysal Hasan Khan, commanding officer of BGB-2 Battalion in Teknaf, said a BGB team signalled a Cox’s Bazar-bound auto-rickshaw to stop around 4:00am in Kurearmukh area near Marine Drive road.
“But the criminals ignored the signal and opened fire on the BGB team, triggering the gunfight,” he said.
The “criminals” then got down from the vehicle and continued firing. After the “gun battle”, the BGB members found the body of Ibrahim lying on the spot, the BGB official said.
BGB also claimed to have recovered 20,000 yaba pills, a firearm and two sharp weapons from the spot.
