2 girls raped in Habiganj, Moulvibazar

Two minor girls have allegedly been raped in Habiganj and Moulvibazar since Monday evening.

A vegetable vendor in Moulvibazar’s Srimangal upazila allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl yesterday.

The accused Jamal Mia, 20, raped the girl when she went to a tea garden adjacent to her home around 10:00am, the victim’s uncle said.

Jamal wrapped her mouth with a towel and raped her. At one point, hearing the girl scream, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her but the accused managed to flee, the uncle added.

The victim was undergoing treatment at Srimangal Upazila Health Complex.

Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Srimangal Police Station, said the victim’s uncle filed a case with the police station.

Ashrafuzzaman, senior assistant superintendent of Srimangal police, said they started conducting drives to arrest Jamal.

Meanwhile in Habiganj, a first grader was allegedly raped by her neighbour on Monday evening.

The accused Arjon Das, 25, of the district’s Ajmiriganj upazila, forcibly took the girl to a bush adjacent to her home around 6:30pm and raped her, alleged the victim’s mother.

Hearing the girl scream, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her but Arjon managed to flee, said locals.

The victim was undergoing treatment at Ajmiriganj Upazila Health Complex, said police.

Sheikh Najmul Haque, officer-in-charge of Ajmiriganj Police Station, said a case was filed in this connection and the law enforcers were conducting drives to arrest the accused.
