Kidnapped infant's body recovered
Police yesterday recovered the body of a two-and-a-half month old infant, who was abducted on March 11, from a septic tank in Bagerhat's Morrelganj upazila.
The dead Abdullah was son of Sohag Hawladar, a resident of district's Nishanbaria area.
Police arrested Hridoy Chaprashi, the prime accused in a case filed in this connection, from the capital's Sayedabad area on early Saturday. They conducted a drive, taking Hridoy along with them, yesterday morning to recover the body, said Riazul Islam, additional superintendent of police in Morrelganj.
Riazul said Hridoy, along with his cohorts, abducted the child after entering their house through a window on early March 11.
They also took the mobile phone of Sohag before leaving, police also said.
In the morning, when the family members were carrying out searches for Abdullah, a call came from Sohag's number. The caller asked a ransom of Tk10 lakh to have their child back.
Later on the day, Sohag filed a case with Morrelganj Police Station accusing a number of unidentified criminals.
During primary interrogation, Hridoy admitted of asphyxiating the child before dumping the body into the tank, police added.
KM Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge of Morrelganj Police Station, said they had arrested six people in this connection and they had been sent to the court.
