Attack on Fakhrul: Now a case filed against 26 BNP men
A day after a case was filed against the ruling Awami League men over the attack on the BNP secretary general's motorcade, another case was lodged with the same Chittagong court yesterday afternoon, accusing 26 BNP activists of attacking CNG drivers in Chittagong's Rangunia upazila on Sunday.
One Md Mohsin of Rangunia municipality area lodged the case with Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shahidullah Kaisar under the Speedy Trial Act.
In the case statement, the plaintiff introduced himself as a CNG driver. He stated that he was waiting in front of Ichhakhali Health Complex of Rangunia for passengers around 10:40am on Sunday, the speedy vehicle carrying BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir hit him and another CNG driver Abdul Aziz Emon, injuring them.
When agitated locals protested the incident, the accused in the case attacked them and vandalised two CNGs. Locals then took the injured to the local health complex.
BNP Rangunia upazila unit convener Shawkhat Ali Nur, its former organising secretary Yusuf Mia Chowdhury and BNP Rangunia Municipality unit convener Mahbub Safa are among the accused.
Accepting the case, the court directed Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case and submit its report by July 19, said plaintiff's lawyer Nikhil Kumar Nath.
In the case statement, the plaintiff also alleged that the accused had since been threatening him not to file a case against them.
Meanwhile, BNP Rangunia upazila unit convener Shawkhat dismissed the allegations, saying everybody knew what happened on the day.
“Awami League, Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League were behind the attack on our secretary general and other BNP leaders. Now to conceal the real fact, they have lodged a false case against us,” he said.
On Sunday, Fakhrul's motorcade came under attack in Ichhakhali when he along with other BNP leaders was going to visit the landslide victims in Rangamati.
On Wednesday, a case was lodged against 26 ruling party men for their alleged involvement in the attack.
