Dalit Matua Community celebrates Nobanno Utshab in Barishal

Rejoicing harvest, Nobanno Utshab was celebrated recently by the Dalit Matua Community at Amritangan, Natun Bazar, Barisal, with the slogan, ‘Natun Dhanney Hobey Nobanno Aaj.  

Matua Samprodaya, the Hindu Dalits sect of farmers, agricultural workers and followers of Hari Guruchand Thakur, organised the festival around the theme-- Mon Diey Krishi Koro, Pujo Mati Mae, Mone Rekho, Bechey Achho, Matir Kripae.

Divisional Leader of the community and President of the Mandir Committee, Dr Gokul Chandra Biswas presided over the inaugural ceremony. Rakhal Chandra Dey, District President of Puja Udjapon Parishad, Bijoy Krishna Dey, Chief Patroniser of the community, Gazi Naimul Hosain Litu, Local Ward Councilor, along with Monika Thakur and other leaders of the community, were also in attendance, among others.

The festival programme included farmer’s reception, discussion, Nobanno Mela, food festival and a special cultural programme.
