4 interns at medical college in Barishal test Covid-19 positive
Authorities of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barishal yesterday locked down four hostels after four intern doctors tested positive for Covid-19.
The positive cases were confirmed after tests were conducted at Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital, Dr Asit Kumar Das, principal of the medical college told our Barishal correspondent.
Of the 209 interns, 150 have been put under institutional quarantine.
The hostels under lockdown include Habibur Rahman Hostel, Jamilur Rahman Hostel, Dr Nur-Ur-Nabi Interns Hostel and a female hostel.
Authorities will conduct Covid-19 tests on all interns, Dr Asit said.
At least 32 patients are receiving treatment at the isolation unit of the hospital. Of whom, 20 have tested coronavirus positive.
After the lockdown, there will be a shortage of doctors at the hospital but authorities are expecting 60 doctors will join the hospital in the next three days, said Dr Bakir Hossain, director of the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Some intern doctors under lockdown have complained of food shortage as their cook allegedly ran away.
But Dr Bakir later said medical authorities supplied food to the interns.
