Blair distancing from Bush?
After the 7/7 London bombing, it appears that the British PM Tony Blair has realised the importance of distancing himself from the aggressive foreign policy of US President Bush.

Injustice begets violence
We condemn the bomb attacks in London, which were carried out by suicide bombers, in which at least 52 people died and several hundreds have been injured.

Banyan tree in Bengali culture
A banyan tree plays an important role in Bengali culture. It is a huge tree spread over a large area around it.

buses by US soldiers
Abuses by US soldiers at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and at Gauntanamo Bay prison in Cuba shocked the world. The first one was extremely cruel.

British Muslims
Javed Akhtar was born and brought up in UK of Pakistani parents and settled in UK for 40 years.
JA is the new generation British Muslims and his views (BBC interview) are illuminating and on target.

Use of microphones
Nowadays sound pollution has become unbearable for students and children. Use of high volume microphones in the street has added a new dimension to sound pollution.

Biman
I concur with Mr. Munshi's letter (DS, July 20) that it's high time something is done about BIMAN, which is becoming a white elephant for the government.

Terrorism
July 7, another black day. The US, UK and who is next? May be Canada or Australia will be the next target of terrorist attacks, since they are close allies of the US.

Roads in bad shape
Repair and carpeting of roads and digging/construction of drains in Section No 13 of Uttara Model Town have been going on in full swing.
