Biman

I concur with Mr. Munshi's letter (DS, July 20) that it's high time something is done about BIMAN, which is becoming a white elephant for the government.

If the government does not want to privatise BIMAN, it should, at the minimum, hand it over to professional managers who know how to operate an airline with the provision that government does not interfere. The government should also adopt an 'open-skies' policy, which will not only benefit consumers, but BIMAN as well.

The government's sole focus as far as aviation is concerned is in areas of safety.
