The Deadly Visit to Aminbazar

Conflicting stories are now emerging about the incidents that have led to the death of six teenagers at the hand of a mob in Aminbazar on the night of the Shab-e-Barat. With the police turning a blind eye, the area has become a haven for drug peddlers and illegal sand filling activities. In the aftermath of the carnage the police falsely accused the young men of robbery; even though they have later changed their stance, the incident on the wee hours of July 19 is a grim reminder of how dangerous our society has become. It is a story of what happens when trust in the law enforcing agencies disappears and the rule of law is replaced by mob justice.
