Rumours surfaced that Shakib Al Hasan was returning to Dhaka in the middle of the Asia Cup tournament due to his daughter falling sick. Shakib's wife Ummey Al Hasan responded to such rumours today via her verified Facebook profile, criticizing the news as 'yellow journalism' to get 'bumper views'.
The all-rounder was struggling with a finger injury ahead of the series and some media outlets reported that he was returning home. Shakib's wife reiterated that the pair's daughter was already sick before the Asia Cup and informed that the cricketer was not returning home.
"Yellow journalism at its best. Without knowing anything they like to make up a story and shoot it in the market for bumper views and of course that has to be Shakib Al Hasan. My daughter fell sick before Asia cup started and no he's not going back to Dhaka, it was never in the mind. There has been many other situations he needed to be by his family but we sacrifice as a family for the country. You might have forgotten that he couldn't be there for the birth of his first child. And this guy is playing with an injury knowing it will cost him in the long run."
She also wrote that it was not a patriotic stance to feed fake news since Bangladesh are currently playing in an important tournament.
"Playing with a player's concentration with negative news before any match is not patriotic. I stand against yellow journalism," the cricketer's wife wrote on a Facebook post.
