The Bare Minimum
Employing more than two million workers of which 80 per cent are women, ready-made garment has been the country's main source of foreign exchange for the last 25 years. The core of the business is cheap labour, which the first generation of owners took full advantage of. For the first time, the unjustifiable wage in this sector has taken up the lawmakers' attention and revising the minimum wage has become an absolute necessity, in the face of growing agitation among the workers.
